Plaza Da Funk

Biography

Plaza de Funk aka Marcello De Angelis has been producing and DJing since 2001. As half of leftfield duo Cimarosa Collective, he has released many tracks on Halidon's Café Prive' compilation series, culminating in the release of a self-titled album on the same label in 2002. Cimarosa Collective tracks have also appeared on compilations such as Hindu (Self Records), Milan - The Sex, The City, The Music (Petrol) and Pharaoh Lounge (Time Zone).

Marcello has also released a House 12" on Oxyd Records under the name of Velvet Planet (a collaboration with DJ Franco Martinelli). The track, called Black Hole, has appeared in various charts including King Uniques and Paul Van Dyks. Another track co-written with Franco was released at the start of 2005 on Paprika records, and has recently been licensed to the Klubb House 2 compilation album on Kickin Music.

2003 saw the inclusion of his track Magic Moukan on Irma's Formentera de Dia vol. 2 compilation, which was the first track to be released under the Plaza De Funk name.

He moved to London in early 2004 and got in touch with Hatch - half of the Western Allstars - an old friend he had met a couple of years ago at the seminal breaks night, Passenger. By this time West Records was up and running and Marcello had been experimenting making the funkier side of breaks, so offered to show him a couple of tunes that he had been busy working on. The reaction was good and the collaboration between Plaza de Funk and West Records was born!

DJ-wise, in the short space he has been living in London he has secured a monthly residency at breakbeat warehouse night Alhambra Nights, whilst also bringing his beats to Bar Vinyl, Platform 12, The Breaks Bar, 333, Trafik and Inigo amongst others.

Other past gigs include Checkout at Enigma in Brighton, Breakin Even at the Fez Club in Reading, as well as appearances in Switzerland and Italy.

The three track EP Got The Funk - including a remix by Mantra Breaks rising star Madox - has just been released on West records and is already receiving amazing reponse from the likes of dj Hyper, Meat Katie, Vigi, Move-Ya!, Slyde, Phil Hartnoll and Superstyle Deluxe. It was also sureplayer in Dj Mag and has reached n.6 in the Beats and Breaks chart.!
